The story of Philippe Sylvain Senderos – Big Phil aka Swiss Tony.

He signed for Arsenal in December 2002, though he remained at Servette until the following summer. The transfer fee was reportedly £2.5m.

His first season at Arsenal was plagued by injury But Big Phil made a name for himself in 2006 with Kolo Toure at the heart of Arsenal’s Champions League run which included a record-breaking run of ten clean sheets.

I was convinced that Senderos was a future Arsenal captain.

He was a very good young defender. Decent in the air, solid in a 50/50 tackle. Senderos was committed & professional for club and country.

However, Senderos suffered at the hands of Drogba & Torres and was blamed for everyhing..Senderos just could not handle the power of Drogba, time and time again Drogba would score and you would see Senderos walk off with his head down… But since Senderos what has changed? NOTHING.. Drogba is still doing the same thing to Silvestre,Gallas and Thomas Vermaelen. So Maybe it was not all his fault?

And in a Recent Poll on Arsenal Action, When asked who Arsenal fans would rather have out of Senderos or Silvestre? Senderos got 280 votes to Silvestre 28.

But Senderos was blamed for everything and in 2008 Senderos was sent out on loan to AC Milan and played 12 games, Returning to Arsenal he was overlooked behind Silvestre and was loaned out again to Everton…

During this time did Arsenal’s weak defence look more solid without Senderos? NO… High balls into the box vs teams like Blackburn, Stoke, Wigan and Bolton still a massive problem. EVEN without Senderos…

But for a player still only 25 he has been treated very badly by Wenger and been made to look like a Scapegoat.

Personally I would pick Senderos ahead of Silvestre all day and night…

Well now the Scapegoat has gone and i wish him all the best. I’m sorry to see him go.. Good luck Swiss Tony

No doubt Silvestre will get a new deal at Arsenal now.

The “Gaffer” Arsene Wenger today spoke about Vieira,Chamakh, Senderos & Hangeland.Wenger was speaking at Arsenals charity launch at the Great Ormond Street hospital for kids…And when asked the following he replyed…

When asked if Arsenal were close to completing a deal for Vieira.

“Not at the moment, no,”

“We make a few enquires for players, but we are nowhere near to signing anybody at the moment””Usually the transfer market speeds up from August 26 up to midnight on 31st – especially in the last two hours.”

When asked about Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh

“He has been overpriced by Bordeaux””We can still make do with one or two players more “One could be in the defensive areas, and one in the attacking areas.”

Wenger on Senderos

“There is an interest from Everton, but he is still our player,”

“He has an opportunity to go because he only has one year left on his contract, so we will see what happens next week.”

And on Hangeland

“We had a look at him, but we have not contacted Fulham,We have not contacted Hangeland and have not made our choice on him or anybody else,”

Good to see Big Phil back at Arsenal.

I have always rated him and for me he was scapegoated by the fans and wenger for all our defensive problems.

We use to blame Senderos for everything, Drogba scores “blame Senderos” Torres scores “blame Senderos”

Well look at last season, Senderos was not even at the club and it was the same shit..If anything it was worst without him.

Personally i would rather have Senderos then Silvestre and Djourou.

But speaking after tonights friendly Wenger confirmed that Senderos has “offers” and he needs to decide on his future.Wenger said ” “It is open. He has come back here with us still looking for solutions but he is still yet to decide on his future”. In other words wenger didnt say that Senderos has a future at Arsenal and he will be sold if the player agreed to leave.

Like i said, I feel sorry for big phil and would like to see him given one more chance at the club ahead of Djourou and Silvestre

Allowing them both to leave on loan will cost us this season. We are very short of defenders and i cant see why wenger let them leave without getting cover.

Now are have Gallas and Djourou out for the rest of the season with Clichy out we dont have the back up players at the club.. Both Armand Traoré and Senderos are not even playing at the mo, So what was the point in allowing them to go out on loan if they are not going to play?

The whole point of allowing a player to go out on loan is to see how they deal with playing week in week out in a higher standed. It worked for Alex Song and Jay Simpson etc.

How did Wenger go into a season with no back up player for Clichy? Gibbs is doing OK but he is not a LB. IF we had Armand Traoré we would be in good shape for the FA Cup semi final and CL games vs Man Utd. Now Gibbs will be up against Ronaldo if Clichy is not fit.

This could turn out to be even worst then allowing Diarra and Flamini to leave.
